The Real Skinny on Losing It By Michelle McKinney Hammond

ABOUT THE BOOK:

So many things contribute to women’s struggles with weight that no matter what infomercials and celebrities promise on TV, it’s never as simple as 1-2-3 to “get it off and keep it off.”

That’s because the real issue usually lurks beneath the surface—in a woman's heart and mind. No matter how many sit-ups, push-ups, or miles on the treadmill you do, you’ll never see honest, life-changing results until you make peace with your inner self and the One who created you—take it from someone who’s been there and back several times (and dress sizes!).

Filled with great tips, recipes, advice, and encouragement, The Real Skinny on Losing It is a hilarious and blatantly honest story of Michelle McKinney Hammond’s own battle of the bulge and everything she’s learned about fad diets, nutrition, exercise, self-esteem, and self-worth along the way. Trust us—this is the last diet book you’ll ever need to buy!

MY REVIEW:

After years of having trouble keeping weight on, I now find myself having trouble keeping it off! Reading The Real Skinny on Losing It: True Confessions & Divine Revelations of a Former Yo-Yo Dieter by Michelle McKinney Hammond has been very inspirational and allowed me an opportunity to find humor in a frustrating situation.

Michelle has a real good sense of humor for a difficult problem for many people. I enjoyed her straight-forward attitude. And never having been a "diva," I found looking at myself as one gave me a new attitude!

At the end of each chapter there is some very practical questions that helped me look at myself, my eating habits and suggestions that I can apply. That's the "Keeping It Real" portion. Right after that is the "Diva Reflections." Here's an example:

Some of the things we war with in life cannot be won by natural means. Their roots go deeper to an invisible place with unseen forces that do their best work through our ignorance. After all other efforts have failed, it's time to look deeper and let God show us the root of the fruit that is showing up in our lives, on our hips, and on our lips. Sometimes we have to get past ourselves to see what's really in the way. The truth hurts, but it's also medicine that can set you free. So don't despise the process. Hang in there, my sister. (pg 83)

At the back of the book are some real yummy recipes that are easy to make. And satisfying.

This isn't your typical "diet" book. Rather, it's a book that will help you find the real reasons for the over-eating/ yo-yo dieting roller-coaster. She helps you get to the heart of the matter instead of just covering the outer problem. And it's all done with truth, humor and a willingness to share herself.
